Welcome to Kansas Rural Health Works

Welcome to Kansas Rural Health Works, a resource dedicated to helping rural communities build affordable and sustainable local health care systems.

Rural Health Works (RHW) is funded through the Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP). Kansas Rural Health Works (KRHW) began in 2004 as an initiative to expand public awareness of the importance of the economic impact of the health care sector and to stress health care’s critical role in rural development. KRHW has provided information to support local decision-makers in rural communities to become proactive and intricately involved in planning and supporting their local health systems. The ultimate objective has been to maintain local health care services, including critical access hospitals, to result in healthier rural communities and economies.

Facilitated Community Health Needs Assessment Now Available

Meeting local needs related to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act and Local Health Department Accreditation.

The federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act health care legislation has imposed new requirements for 501(c)(3) hospitals. At the same time, efforts are underway to implement an accreditation program for local health departments. Both of these initiatives require completion of a periodic community health needs assessment.
